How to Perform Rukun Solat Jenazah: A Comprehensive Guide

What is Solat Jenazah?

Solat Jenazah, also known as funeral prayer, is an Islamic ritual performed to seek forgiveness and blessings for the deceased individual. It is obligatory for all adult Muslims who are physically and mentally capable of doing so.

Rukun Solat Jenazah: The Essential Elements

Rukun are the essential elements that make up a valid Solat Jenazah. If any of these elements are omitted, the prayer is considered invalid.

1. Niat (Intention)

Before commencing the prayer, the worshipper must have the clear intention to perform Solat Jenazah for the deceased individual. This intention should be present throughout the prayer.

2. Takbiratul Ihram (Initial Takbir)

The prayer begins with the Takbiratul Ihram, which involves raising both hands to the ears while uttering "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest).

3. Reading Surah Al-Fatihah

After the Takbiratul Ihram, the worshipper recites Surah Al-Fatihah, the opening chapter of the Quran.

4. Salawat (Blessings on the Prophet Muhammad)

Following Surah Al-Fatihah, the worshipper sends blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad by reciting "Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad...".

5. Doa for the Deceased

The core of the prayer involves making supplications for the deceased individual. The worshipper prays for forgiveness, mercy, and acceptance into Paradise.

6. Second Takbir

After the doa, the worshipper raises both hands to the ears again and says "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest).

7. Second Salawat

Following the second Takbir, the worshipper repeats the blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad as before.

8. Third Takbir

The worshipper raises both hands to the ears for the third time and utters "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest).

9. Salam (Greetings of Peace)

The prayer concludes with the Salam, in which the worshipper turns their head to the right and says "As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon you).

10. Fourth Takbir

After the Salam, the worshipper raises both hands to the ears for the fourth and final time and says "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest).

Conclusion

Performing Solat Jenazah is an essential Islamic obligation that holds great significance for the deceased individual. By fulfilling this duty, Muslims demonstrate their love, respect, and prayers for their departed loved ones.
