Boeing's Starliner Spacecraft Arrives at the International Space Station
Orbital Flight Test 2 Marks a Milestone in Commercial Crew Transportation
Designed for Crew Transport to the ISS
The Boeing Starliner, also known as the CST-100, is a partially reusable spacecraft designed for crew transportation to the International Space Station (ISS). Developed in collaboration with NASA's Commercial Crew Program, the spacecraft is a key component of NASA's plan to utilize private companies for low-Earth orbit transportation.
Successful Arrival at the ISS
On May 20, 2022, Boeing's Starliner spacecraft arrived at the ISS as part of Orbital Flight Test 2 (OFT-2). This mission marked the first time the Starliner has docked with the station. The spacecraft was unoccupied during this test flight but successfully demonstrated its capabilities.
Continued Development and Future Flights
Boeing continues to develop the Starliner spacecraft, with plans for upcoming crewed missions to the ISS. The spacecraft is designed to carry up to four astronauts and has a reusable capsule for future flights. The Starliner aims to provide a safe and efficient means of crew transportation, reducing NASA's reliance on Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
