NASA and Boeing Launch First Crewed Starliner Mission to International Space Station
Historic Maiden Voyage Underway
Astronauts Wilmore and Williams Embark on Test Flight
The Boeing Starliner, a spacecraft designed to carry astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), has successfully launched on its maiden crewed mission. The launch took place on June 19, 2024, from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The crew of the Starliner consists of veteran astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Suni Williams. They will spend approximately two weeks aboard the ISS, conducting various tests and experiments.
The Starliner's launch marks a significant milestone in the development of commercial spaceflight. If successful, it will pave the way for more frequent and affordable astronaut transportation to the ISS. The mission is also an important step in NASA's Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon by 2025.
